The central pyramid at Chau Hiix is approximately 75 feet tall. It sits atop a 6-foot-high plaza that covers 3 to 4 acres.
The Chau Hiix site is approximately 25 miles northwest of Belize City, near Crooked Tree Village.
The central part of the Chau Hiix site covers 3 to 4 acres. The main pyramid is surrounded by six smaller monumental structures.
These pieces of incense burners were found on the surface of the ground in 1990 when Anne Pyburn first explored Chau Hiix.
They were left there approximately 100 years before the Spanish conquest.
These spear points were uncovered two years ago in a tomb from the Mayan Early Classic era (appx. 300-400 A.D.). The largest is nearly 15 inches long.
This pot and bowl are also from the Early Classic era. They were found in a tomb of one of the earliest rulers of the settlement.
