IU center to conduct survey to assess ADA implementation in Indiana

Jan. 10, 2001

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- People with disabilities and family members across Indiana are being asked to "grade" their communities on how well they are implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Center for Planning and Policy Studies at Indiana University's Indiana Institute on Disability and Community is conducting the survey for ADA-Indiana. ADA-Indiana is Indiana's State ADA Steering Committee, funded by the Great Lakes ADA Center to promote ADA implementation in Indiana. It serves as the centralized, statewide vehicle through which all those interested in promoting the implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act provide direction.

Survey questions also ask respondents what training and information they feel people in their community would benefit from. Areas being assessed include employment for people with disabilities, access to government programs, accessibility of public facilities and events, accessible information, and communication and knowledge of ADA rights and responsibilities.

ADA-Indiana, the institute and other disability advocacy organizations will be able to use this information to plan local, regional and statewide training and information dissemination.

The survey will run until Feb. 15. One easy way to respond to the survey is to go to its Web address at http://www.iidc.indiana.edu/~survey/

Print copies of the survey can be obtained by calling toll-free 1-800-825-4733 or by sending an e-mail message to ADAINFO@indiana.edu
