Committee begins search for IUAA leader

Oct. 24, 2001

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The 10-member search committee that will recommend a new president for the Indiana University Alumni Association will hold its first meeting today (Oct. 24).

The committee, appointed by IU President Myles Brand, will be chaired by IU Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer Terry Clapacs.

Clapacs said the committee hopes to complete its work by January. The university is seeking a successor to Jerry Tardy, who died Sept. 7. Tardy led the IU Alumni Association, one of the nation's five largest such organizations, for 14 years. Brand named John Hobson as interim president and chief executive officer of the IUAA earlier this month.

The search committee includes three former volunteer leaders of the IU Alumni Association: Clarence Boone, M.D., of Gary; Richard Searles of Indianapolis; and Patrick Shoulders of Evansville. The current chair of the association, Lynn Lewis of Clarksville, is also a member. Other committee members include Frank Otte of Indianapolis, a former student member of the IU Board of Trustees; Curt Simic, president of the IU Foundation; IU Trustee Sue Talbot of Bloomington; Bette Davenport, director of alumni relations and campus ceremonies at IU East; and Sara McNabb, executive assistant to Brand.
