CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER APPOINTED
FOR IU'S RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY AGENCY

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- John R. Kerstiens has been named chief financial officer for the Indiana University Advanced Research & Technology Institute (ARTI).

Kerstiens has supervisory authority for ARTI's financial activities including budget coordination, auditing, accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and purchasing. He also is responsible for financial planning and new business opportunities.

ARTI President Ronald Henriksen said, "We are very pleased to welcome John into our organization as we continue to grow and improve our capacity to bring to the marketplace new technologies and other ideas created by IU inventors."

Kersteins' career embraces more than a decade of financial management experience. He comes to ARTI from the IU Foundation, where he was executive director for finance and controller, beginning in 1995. Prior to that, he was director of investment and tax accounting from 1991 to 1995 at IUF. From 1988 to 1991, he was manager, mutual fund accounting for Conseco Inc. of Carmel, Ind.

A resident of Martinsville, he earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting in 1987 from IU and an associate of science degree in accounting in 1985 from Suffolk County Community College in Selden, N.Y.

ARTI is a private, not-for-profit corporation acting as an agent for IU in developing, protecting and transferring technology and expertise from IU inventors to the world of business. Through the departments of Business Development, Technology Transfer, and Licensing & Trademarks, ARTI serves the private business sector and all IU campuses.

Businesses profiting from IU inventions range from Fortune 500 producers of consumer products to biotechnology startups, from companies serving the automotive industry to those developing advanced computer applications.

ARTI is based in Indianapolis (1000 Waterway Blvd.) and also maintains offices in Bloomington (501 N. Morton St.).
