Arts Week kicks off Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Bloomington is a place "Where the Arts Are Always in Season," and that is the theme for the 16th annual Arts Week for Indiana University and the Bloomington community. Events will begin Friday (Nov. 3) and continue through Nov. 12.
There will be a public reception to kick off Arts Week on Saturday (Nov. 4) at 3:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Musical Arts Center.
Everyone is welcome to attend the many shows, lectures and exhibits throughout Bloomington. Highlights of Arts Week include theater, music, art and dance. A complete listing of events and exhibits is available at http://www.indiana.edu/~deanfac/artsweek
For Arts Week events on the IU campus, parking will be free after 3 p.m. at all IU parking garages.
Playgoers will have several choices beginning Friday (Nov. 3). The IU Theatre will present The Misanthrope by Moliere. Another option is Best Little Whorehouse in Texas by Carol Hall at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre. The Bloomington Playwrights Project will present Simplicity Itself by Kurt Hartwig. Starting Nov. 10, a play by David Mamet, Glengarry Glen Ross, will be in the John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium.
The IU Opera Theater will present Susannah by Carlisle Floyd beginning Nov. 10.
Music highlights will include the Second Annual Bloomington Folk Live; the J.S. Bach Cantata Series, BWV 65; the David N. Baker Visiting Jazz Artist Series; "Jazz from Bloomington" featuring the Dave Holland Quintet; doctoral recitals; Triptico Mexicano; and a performance by the African American Dance Company, African American Choral Ensemble, and IU Sole Revue.
The IU Art Museum will have a series of events called "Docents Unlock Mysteries." Each session will deal with a different "mystery" in the museum.
