Editor of the papers and diaries of presidents Truman and Dwight D. Eisenhower. His book "Ill-Advised: Presidential Health and Public Trust" (University of Missouri Press, 1992) examined how presidents and their physicians have covered up serious health problems. Nationally known expert on welfare reform policy. Co-director of the Institute for Family and Social Responsibility, a multi-disciplinary, multi-campus institute that provides research expertise and technical assistance to state and national social service organizations. Current research focuses on child poverty with emphasis on adolescent parenting and child support enforcement. Her findings were incorporated into the Clinton welfare reform proposals. Has served as a political analyst for state and local television. His political polls, conducted both as the IUPUI Poll and for major media outlets, are the most respected polls in Indiana. Recent polls have focused on the role of issues in the voting behavior of Hoosiers. Current research examines interpersonal trust and political support, the role of polls in politics, and issue concerns of voters and their reaction to paid advertising.
