IU Center on Congress recognizing outstanding teaching about Congress
Nov. 29, 2000
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University's Center on Congress is accepting applications for its award to recognize outstanding teaching about Congress.
The Outstanding Teacher Award Program recognizes Indiana school teachers who have made exemplary efforts in teaching about Congress in their classes. Up to five awards of $5,000 each will be presented by the center.
The Outstanding Teacher Award Program is funded under the auspices of the Cummins Engine Foundation.
Last year's winners were presented their awards at the annual Conference of the Indiana Social Studies Association by Lee Hamilton, former U.S. Representative and director of the Center on Congress, and Suellen Reed, Indiana superintendent of public instruction.
A major goal of the Center on Congress is to assist teachers in providing quality education about our national representative branch of government. The Outstanding Teacher Award Program is one way the center is pursuing this goal.
