NEW DIRECTOR NAMED
AT IU KELLEY SCHOOL'S
CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University has named Elizabeth J. "Betsy" Gatewood as the new director of its Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
Gatewood arrives from the University of Houston, where she was executive director of the Small Business Development Center and a research professor in its Department of Management.
At IU, she also will hold the Jack M. Gill Chair of Entrepreneurship and be a clinical professor of management. She will direct all center activities, teach students in the Kelley School's MBA program and conduct research on entrepreneurial topics.
"We've attracted a director with the credentials and energy to continue CEI's tradition of excellence," said Dan R. Dalton, dean of the Kelley School of Business. "Dr. Gatewood has extensive experience with the entrepreneurship and small business communities. She has been the recipient of an impressive list of funded projects, grants, contracts and consultancies."
In Houston, Gatewood created several new initiatives, including the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center, the Women Business Owners' Roundtable and the Houston 100, a recognition program similar to CEI's Growth 100 award. Growth 100 recognizes and supports 100 of the highest potential, high-growth companies in the state every year.
"I look forward to meeting the business leaders of Indiana," Gatewood said. "We'll find many ways to work together, improving the state's entrepreneurial landscape."
Gatewood has written more than 60 articles, papers and book sections on entrepreneurship, innovation, strategic management and financial analysis, and is past chair of the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management. She received the Texas Women in Business Advocate of the Year Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration and the 1996 Advocate Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Entrepreneurship from the Academy of Management.
Daniel W. DeHayes, CEI's director for the last nine years, will continue his research and teaching activities in entrepreneurship and teach in the Management Department of the Kelley School.
The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation offers several resources to individuals and entrepreneurial companies large and small, including family businesses. It schedules a regular series of conferences on topics such as capitalization, management, market development and other issues critical to senior executives and investors. It also is highly involved in graduate and undergraduate Kelley School programs that are designed to prepare students to succeed as future business owners and managers of entrepreneurial businesses.
