Judy Chicago's students at IU will exhibit their work in IU Art Museum

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- "SINsation," an unprecedented exhibition by the students in artist Judy Chicago's studio class at Indiana University's Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts, will premiere Dec. 10 from 5-7 p.m. in the IU Art Museum Special Exhibitions Gallery. The display will continue through Dec. 16.
Eleven women from all over Indiana have worked intensively in the fall semester class to create an array of content-driven images that are vibrant and provocative.
The exhibiting artists include Claire Barker, Joanne Beck, Peg Brand, Kalynn Brower, Yara Cluver, Gail Hale, Kim Kurdelak, Darlene Mitchell, Jenny Necheles, Amy Saunders and Jan Zunkel. Their media include painting, sculpture, photography, video, fibers, multimedia installation and performance art. The artists are from Bloomington, Indianapolis, West Lafayette, Crawfordsville and Evansville.
In addition to the visual arts exhibition, a series of special performances, "Slope, slIp, slaNt," will be presented during the opening and throughout the weekend of Dec. 11-12. These include the restaging of several historic performance pieces from the original Womanhouse exhibit of 1972, as well as the premiere of specially developed presentations. The performances are directed by Terry Brino-Dean and include students from the IU Department of Theatre and Drama.
The IU Art Museum is located at the heart of the Bloomington campus on Seventh Street, adjacent to Showalter Fountain. Exhibition hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday, noon-5 p.m. For more information, call 812-855-IUAM or 812-855-5445.
