IU distributed education listings now online

Jan. 17, 2001

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- An online database provides one-stop shopping for information about the nearly 400 courses and 10 degree programs that Indiana University offers primarily at a distance. Compiled and regularly updated by the IU Office of Distributed Education, the database can be accessed at http://www.indiana.edu/

"Distributed education encompasses a broad range of educational formats," said IU Associate Vice President for Distributed Education Erwin Boschmann. "It includes correspondence courses, online courses, and courses taught in traditional classrooms that incorporate technologies to improve learning. The emphasis in distributed education is on interaction."

The Web site has links to degrees that IU offers primarily at a distance, as well as a complete database of IU courses available via the World Wide Web, interactive video, independent study, videotape, broadcast and cable television, and satellite. Visitors can search the database by subject area, course delivery method, level (graduate or undergraduate) and semester.

"The online database reflects the university's determination to provide the convenient, high-quality student services called for in the IU strategic plan on distributed education," Boschmann said. "The Office of Distributed Education will continually work with campuses, schools and departments to provide a unified view of distributed education programs at Indiana University, which is annually ranked among the most 'wired' campuses in the nation."
