IU students, staff and faculty honored for service to Dean of Students, Campus Life Division

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Ten people and one program at Indiana University will be recognized at an awards ceremony Wednesday (March 28) for their contributions to IU's dean of students and Campus Life Division.

The awards recognize outstanding contributions to the division by students, staff, faculty and individuals in the Bloomington community. Nominations for the awards were made by the division's staff members, and the winners were chosen by an award selections committee.

The Dean's Awards Reception, which is open to the campus community, will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the University Club in the Indiana Memorial Union.

The following awards will be presented:

In addition, special recognition will be given to Beverly Warren, director of the Student Advocates Office, on her upcoming retirement from IU; and to Richard McKaig, IU vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students, for his 30 years of service to the university.

A plaque commemorating the Dean's Awards and all previous recipients will be unveiled at the reception and permanently displayed in Franklin Hall.

Several of the awards have been designated this year in honor of the former IU deans of students who have served IU on its Bloomington campus.

The Special Merit Award has been named for Col. Raymond L. Shoemaker, who was dean of students in 1946-55. The Division Professional Staff Award has been named for Robert H. Shaffer, dean of students in 1955-69. The Community Award has been named for Thomas C. Schreck, dean of students in 1969-81. The Faculty Award has been named for Michael V. W. Gordon, dean of students in 1981-91.

The Campus Life Division includes the Dean of Students Office, the Alcohol and Drug Information Center, the Career Development Center, the Development Office, Disabled Student Services and Veterans Affairs, the Health Center, the IU Parents Association, Student Activities, the Student Advocates Office, Student Ethics and Anti-Harassment Programs, and Student Legal Services.
