IU FALL ENROLLMENT INCREASES;
IUB SETS RECORD HIGH NEW FRESHMEN ENROLLMENT
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University President Myles Brand today (Sept. 18) announced official Fall 1998 enrollment numbers for all IU campuses. During his announcement, Brand highlighted the following points:
Total IU enrollment for Fall 1998 is 92,479 -- an increase of 1,264 students or a 1.4 percent increase compared to Fall 1997.
This is the first time in the history of the university that IU student credit-hour enrollment has surpassed the one million mark. Credit hours total 1,001,362.5 -- a 2.4 percent increase compared to Fall 1997.
Both IU Bloomington and IUPUI (Indianapolis) reported record high credit-hour enrollments.
The IU Bloomington campus has posted an all-time high enrollment of new freshmen beginning classes this fall. Numbers indicate that 6,735 new freshmen began classes this fall -- an increase of 640 compared to Fall 1997. The total freshman enrollment (which includes beginning freshmen, current freshmen and transfer students) totals 7,706 -- an increase of 720 students compared to Fall 1997.
The IUPUI campus has posted an all-time high enrollment of new freshmen for the fall. Numbers indicate that 3,186 new freshmen began classes there this fall -- an increase of 474 students. The total freshman enrollment (which includes beginning freshmen, current freshmen and transfer students) totals 7,091 -- an increase of 477 students compared to Fall 1997.
IU South Bend, IU Southeast (New Albany) and Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne all posted significant increases in new freshmen.
