JULY 23 CONFERENCE TO HELP EMPLOYERS DEAL WITH EQUALITY ISSUES
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. A conference designed to help companies and institutions deal with new legal developments in workplace equality issues will be conducted at the Bloomington Convention Center on July 23.
The conference is intended to give employers information about affirmative action -- including the most recent Supreme Court decisions -- and the Americans with Disabilities Act and Equal Employment Opportunity laws.
Designed both for larger companies with human resources professionals and small businesses without on-site HR or affirmative action professionals, it will provide ideas and solutions for small-business compliance with these laws, as well as information for businesses and corporations on employee recruitment and selection; how to investigate equality complaints; diversity programming; and conflict resolution that will reduce the threat of litigation.
Sponsors include the Indiana University Office of Affirmative Action, the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, the Indiana Affirmative Action Association, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, Ivy Tech State College, the City of Bloomington Human Rights Commission, the Commission on the Status of Women, and the South Central Indiana Personnel Association.
Speakers are Salome Heyward of Heyward & Associates, Boston, a national expert in equal opportunity law; Rebecca T. Robbins and Jeff Mallamad of Bingham, Summers, Welsh & Spilman in Bloomington; Greg Utken, partner with Baker & Daniels in Indianapolis; Sally Davis-O'Shaughnessy, director of corporate diversity for Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus, Ind.; Barbara McKinney of the Bloomington Human Rights Commission; Jim Heinzen, director of Human Resources for Ivy Tech State College; and Professor Lisa Bingham, director of the Indiana Conflict Resolution Institute at IU.
The $40 fee includes all materials, parking fees, a luncheon and morning and afternoon snacks. For more information, contact Sue Swartz of the Office of Affirmative Action at IU at 812-855-7559. (Ellen Mathia, 812-855-0085, emathia@indiana.edu).
