IU offers students a free opportunity to check on friends and family

Sept. 12, 2001

Indiana University will provide students on the Bloomington and IUPUI campuses the opportunity to make free long distance phone calls to check on friends and family in the areas affected by yesterday's events.

If you need to call to talk with someone in areas listed below only, please do the following.

Pick up any university telephone and dial 9, then 1, and then the area code and the 7-digit telephone number. A recording will prompt you to enter a pass code. Enter the following: 1234567.

Your call will then be put through, provided there are sufficient circuits available in the IU, local, regional and national long distance networks, and in the area you are calling. Should you encounter a "fast busy" signal, this means that all lines are in use within the system. You should try your call again a few minutes later.

This free-call capability will be in effect until midnight today, Sept. 12.
