Al Gore satellite presentation on service learning at IU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University is one of 12 nationwide higher
education institutions that will participate in an upcoming satellite
presentation by former Vice President Al Gore on inter-generational service
learning.
The public is invited to attend the event on Monday (Oct. 29) at 6:30 p.m.
EST in the Dick Enberg Studio, Room 195, in the School of Health, Physical
Education and Recreation (HPER).
Gore's presentation is being arranged by the Corporation for National
Service's program Learn & Serve Higher Education through a grant to the
Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) in partnership with
Generations Together at the University of Pittsburgh.
Local sponsors are the HPER Dean's Office, the IU Center on Aging and Aged,
and IU Community Outreach Partnerships in Service Learning.
The former vice president is expected to discuss benefits of community
service activities that involve college students working with both older adults
and youth.
Lesa Lorenzen Huber of the Center on Aging and Aged said the program will
begin with a display, exhibits and refreshments at 6:30 p.m., with comments on
service learning at 6:45 p.m. and Gore's address at 7 p.m. Gore will speak for
30 minutes from the Middle Tennessee State campus on "Inter-generational Service
Learning in Higher Education."
Huber said those attending will include HPER students and others in the
community who are involved in service learning programs that span generations.
