Hossler appointed as associate vice president for academic affairs

Oct. 16, 2001

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Don Hossler, currently vice chancellor for enrollment services on Indiana University's Bloomington campus, has been named as IU's associate vice president for academic affairs.

Sharon Stephens Brehm, IU vice president for academic affairs and chancellor of the Bloomington campus, made the announcement.

In making the appointment, Brehm cited the university's ongoing effort, beginning in 1998, to redesign both its student information systems and the administrative structures required to support the new system.

As part of those efforts, Hossler will work with University Information Technology Services to coordinate the functional implementation of the new student information system across all campuses and manage the transition into this new information environment.

Brehm emphasized the compatibility between Hossler and his new position. "Don Hossler is exceptionally well qualified to undertake this new role, and I am very grateful for his being willing to accept this appointment," she said.

A member of the faculty in the School of Education, Hossler is a leading scholar in the areas of college choice, enrollment management and institutional financial aid policies. He has published books, monographs and articles on these topics, and has served as a consultant to the federal government and to institutions of higher education throughout the United States and Canada.

"Since 1997, Hossler has successfully led the Office of Enrollment Services on the Bloomington campus. During this time, Indiana University Bloomington has experienced significant growth in the number of undergraduate students and made important progress in increasing the diversity of the student body," Brehm said.

According to Gerald L. Bepko, vice president for long-range planning and chancellor of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, "This appointment marks an important step in modernizing our student information systems for the entire university, and we are fortunate to have someone in the IU family as capable as Don to lead the effort."

Commenting on the restructuring of the student information systems, Hossler said, "This initiative is one of the most important administrative efforts the university has undertaken in the last two decades. Upon its successful completion, this project will enable student service offices across all the Indiana University campuses to be more effective in providing services to students and academic units. I look forward to serving Indiana University in this new role."

In addition to his new position, Hossler will continue to direct the Office of Enrollment Services for Bloomington, which includes the offices of admissions, financial aid, orientation, and registration and records.
