BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Housing rates for the Bloomington and Indianapolis campuses of
Indiana University were approved, June 27 by the Trustees of IU during a business session in
Bloomington.
Bloomington students who lived in campus housing last year will pay the same rates this year
that they paid last year. Students moving into university housing for the first time will be
charged an average of 7.63 percent more than was charged entering students last fall.
Under the IU Bloomington housing plan, students are charged the same amount they paid
when first residing in university housing. Even with the increase for entering students, room
and board rates at Bloomington remain among the lowest for Big Ten universities.
Trustees also approved increases for housing units at the Indiana University-Purdue
University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus. Rates for returning students at Ball Residence will
remain the same as those paid in 1996-97.
A 4 percent increase was approved for those living in the Ball Residence for the first time, and
for all residents of Warthin Apartments; and a 3.5 percent increase was approved for all
residents of the Graduate Townhomes. No increase is planned for residents of International
House.
The average housing rate for new residents at IU Bloomington for the academic year (fall and
spring semesters combined) will be $2,381. The figure is for housing alone (no meals) and is
based on a double occupancy room. Students who lived in campus housing for the first time
last year will pay an average of $2,212; returnees who have lived in campus housing for two
previous years will pay an average of $2,148; and those who have lived in campus housing for
three previous years will pay an average of $2,040.
Several meal plans are available at IU Bloomington, ranging from 19 meals per week at
$2,459 to seven meals per week at $1,643. Figures reflect a 5 percent increase over 1996-97 prices.
