NEARLY 1,400 DEGREES TO BE CONFERRED
AT IPFW COMMENCEMENT WEDNESDAY

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne will hold its 32nd Commencement on Wednesday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. IPFW's December 1998 and May, June, and August 1999 graduates are invited to participate in the ceremony. Graduates and their families, as well as IPFW faculty and staff, will gather in Expo III for a graduation celebration immediately following Commencement.

John McMillen, chairman of the board of the Wildcat Baseball League for the past 25 years, will receive an honorary degree from Purdue University. McMillen was instrumental in ensuring funding for several IPFW projects, including the McKay Farm soccer complex. He is also actively involved with the McMillen Center for Health Education and the Limberlost Girl Scout Council.

Janet H. Latz will receive the Thomas Hart Benton Mural Medallion posthumously from Indiana University. Latz, who was a tireless advocate for the arts, is being recognized for her distinction in public service, her service to IPFW and IU, and her abiding commitment to the search for knowledge. Latz was a committed volunteer and actively served on the boards of many local organizations, including the IPFW School of Fine and Performing Arts Community Advisory Council, which she chaired for many years. Latz passed away on Jan. 19, 1999.

A total of 1,388 degrees will be awarded this year. Since 1968, IPFW has conferred nearly 42,000 degrees on students ranging in ages from 17 to 77. IPFW offers 185 degree and certificate options.

An additional 1,717 degrees from Purdue University will be awarded on the six campuses where Purdue also offers courses. IU will confer eight honorary degrees during five different campus ceremonies.
