1,363 degrees to be conferred at Fort Wayne campus

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne will hold its 33rd commencement May 10 at 7 p.m. in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
IPFW's December 1999 and May, June and August 2000 graduates have been invited to participate in the ceremony. Graduates and their families, as well as IPFW faculty and staff, will gather in Expo III for a graduation celebration immediately following commencement.
E. Sharon Banks, Fort Wayne Community School's Northrop/South Side area administrator, will receive an honorary doctor of letters degree from Purdue University. Banks is being honored for her 30-year role as an educator and administrator in the Fort Wayne area. Banks also serves the Fort Wayne community by volunteering on the boards of several organizations and by serving as a motivational speaker for community groups.
Maclyn T. Parker also will receive an honorary doctor of letters degree from Purdue University. Parker's dedication to the Fort Wayne community has become legendary. A partner since 1985 at the law firm of Baker and Daniels and a Fort Wayne lawyer for 41 years, Parker has earned the nickname "Mr. Fort Wayne" because of his commitment to economic development and civic organizations over the past few decades.
Parker is currently president of the Olive B. Cole Foundation Inc. and the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and he is on the board of directors for several organizations including the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Northeast Development, and the Fort Wayne/Allen County Economic Development Alliance.
A total of 1,363 degrees will be awarded this year. Since 1968, IPFW has conferred nearly 41,000 degrees on students ranging in ages from 17 to 77. IPFW offers 179 degree and certificate options.
