BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship in Indiana University's Kelley School of Business and the Bloomington Economic Development Corp. are presenting Bloomington's first-ever "Young Entrepreneur Day." Two IU student groups, the e-Enterprise Institute and the Young Entrepreneurs Association, also are involved with the event, which has the theme, "Business After the Bubble." It will take place April 28 in the Kelley School's Hall of Honor, on the second floor of the School of Business building at 1309 E. 10th St. in Bloomington.

Industry experts, Kelley School faculty and student entrepreneurs will gather to highlight successful student entrepreneurs and focus on the lessons that can be learned from the recent shakeout involving several Internet firms. Speakers and panelists will explore what is behind a perceived return to business fundamentals and discuss the future of venture capital and how the competitive balance between traditional and new economy firms will continue to evolve.

Bill Martin, currently co-manager of Silicon Ivy, a seed-stage, venture capital firm that targets student-driven startups, will be the keynote speaker. At age 19, Martin founded RagingBull.com, a successful Web-based financial community that was acquired by AltaVista and then by Terra Lycos. He launched eFinanceInsider.com last month and is an adviser for several venture capital firms and startups.

Other speakers will include Richard Blunck, chief technology and e-business officer of Kmart Corp./Bluelight.com; Joe Denekamp and Carl Briggs, faculty in the Kelley School of Business; Jane Martin, regional managing director of Village Ventures Midwest fund; and Dan Dalton, dean of the Kelley School. All are expected to be available for interviews on the day of the event.

Media are invited to a luncheon that will feature an e-business case competition and a speech by Blunck, "Internalizing the Entrepreneurial Vision: How Companies Can Create and Sustain a Culture of New Venture." The luncheon will be in the Federal Room of the Indiana Memorial Union beginning at 11:45 a.m. CDT. Contact Michelle Sinning at the number above if you plan to attend.

The rest of the program is open to the public. It will begin at 1:30 p.m. with presentations by IU student entrepreneurs, followed by a keynote speech by Martin, "From the Dorm Room to the Board Room; Experiences of a Young Entrepreneur." The event will conclude with a panel discussion, "Business After the Bubble," featuring Bill Martin, Jane Martin, Denekamp and Briggs. It is expected to end by 5 p.m. Free parking will be available in a garage at the corner of 10th Street and Fee Lane.
