A message to international students
Sept. 11, 2001
To all students and scholars from abroad at Indiana University:
All of us are affected and troubled by Tuesday's events. It is my fervent hope that none of you have friends or relatives who were hurt or killed. I add my support to President Brand's expression of sorrow.
At the time I write this, no group has been found responsible for the attacks. Please be sensitive to the fact that emotions are running high all across the country, and there may be people who will jump to conclusions or take advantage of this stressful period to take out their frustrations and express their prejudices against others. Bloomington is a generally friendly and accepting city. If there are any incidents that concern you or make you feel that you have been singled out because of your nationality or ethnicity, I urge you to discuss your concerns with an advisor in the Office of International Services or one of the campus offices which deal with harassment issues. If such incidents are in any way threatening or abusive, please report them to the IU Police Department or the Bloomington City police.
Finally, thank you for your attention to this message and to that of President Brand. Please rest assured of our understanding and good wishes.
Sincerely,
Kenneth A. Rogers
Associate Dean and Director
Office of International Services
