MINI UNIVERSITY MAKES LEARNING A PLEASURE FOR ALL
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The enjoyment of college without the stress might be the best way to describe Indiana University's Mini University, an award-winning vacation college offering nearly 100 non-credit classes for both serious and casual students.
This year's Mini University will run June 20-25, with all classes taught by outstanding IU faculty members. There are no prerequisites or exams, just an opportunity to broaden your horizons and meet some fascinating teachers. Co-sponsored by the IU Alumni Association and the IU Division of Continuing Studies, Mini University can be a vacation for the whole family or a stimulating retreat from routine for individuals of all ages.
Classes this year will range from the arts, such as "The New Swing and Its Sources" and "Lines of Sight: Seeing by Drawing," to the practical, including "Investing for the Long Term: Do's and Don'ts" and "Turning On the Wrong Burner: Human Factors Around the House and on the Road." Social issues are represented by classes such as "The Crime of Homelessness" and "Democracy for Sale: Money and Politics." Domestic life is examined in such classes as "Adolescent Sexuality: An Oxymoron?" and "Positive Approaches to Preventing School and Community Violence."
Participants can experience other cultures through classes such as "Religious Fundamentalists in a Cross-Cultural Perspective" or "Japan -- Boom or Bust? The Future of the World's Second-Biggest Economy."
They can escape from it all in classes such as "Classic Duke Ellington" and "Literature and Musical Theatre: Adapting Stories to Music" or deal with real life in classes such as "Successful Aging" or "Depression and the Life Cycle."
