"Interactive New Media Boot Camp" to be June 24-29
May 10, 2001
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Bloomington Division of
Continuing Studies, in conjunction with the IU Department of Telecommunications,
will sponsor a week-long intensive workshop titled "Interactive New Media Boot
Camp" on the IU Bloomington campus June 24-29.
The workshop is specially designed for teachers, librarians, trainers,
information specialists, and others who want an introduction to interactive new
media design for the World Wide Web.
Participants will learn the theory, tools and techniques used to design
instructional activities, simulations and computer games and to enhance them
with interactivity and animation. Photoshop, Illustrator, cascading style
sheets, JavaScript and Flash will be introduced and used to produce these
effects. Sophisticated computer skills are not necessary to enroll. Those who
can use Web browsers and perform typical word-processing tasks have the
necessary skills to benefit from the workshop.
The lead instructor will be Professor Thom Gillespie, director of IU's
Master's in Immersive Mediated Environments (MIME) program in new media design,
who teaches courses in interactive design for the Web.
Accommodations are available on the Bloomington campus for those who need
housing, and the workshop can be taken on a non-credit basis or for three
graduate credits in education.
