Kelley School of Business incorporates e-learning from Ninth House into core undergraduate curriculum
Aug. 29, 2001
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- E-learning by way of some of the world's sharpest thought leaders is coming into undergraduate classrooms at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business this fall.
The Kelley School will become the first U.S. business school to adopt Ninth House Network's interactive e-learning modules as an enhancement to its curriculum. It will add Ninth House 3.0 to a core undergraduate course, "Managing Behavior in Organizations," taught by Timothy T. Baldwin, IU professor of business administration and Geyer-Cain faculty fellow.
The Ninth House materials project the perspectives of leading business thinkers such as Ken Blanchard, Tom Peters and Peter Senge to create an immersive, engaging, learning experience as an online business skills training solution for customers.
"The Ninth House product is an exciting supplement to our course, which will enable us to provide our students with a nice blend of traditional classroom learning and e-learning," Baldwin said. "Students can learn at their own pace and on their own schedule. The material has a sound theoretical foundation, compelling video simulations and case exercises. Progressive firms such as Pfizer and Cisco use it for management education, and we are delighted that we can provide it for our students at this formative stage of their managerial careers."
Baldwin noted that the addition of the Ninth House material "makes our course better, because e-learning is a format which today's students find very engaging."
Students will be assigned specific Ninth House courses as required outside work, with additional use inside the classroom to illustrate specific concepts. The 1,000 students who have access to Ninth House, including students from other majors enrolled in the class, also will be able to access Instant Advice® just-in-time modules for business skills coaching and all of Ninth House's immersive courses and simulations.
Ninth House 3.0 is touted as the most advanced , easy-to-use version of the award-winning Ninth House Network. Version 3.0 uses technology enhancements that give organizations the ability to provide e-learning quickly and easily to the entire enterprise. In addition to simplifying access and deployment, Ninth House Network 3.0 integrates more tightly with leading learning management systems.
"The Kelley School of Business is really offering a new way of preparing business students, by blending effective e-learning with traditional classroom training," said Jeff Snipes, co-founder and president, Ninth House Inc. "This isn't theory, it's realistic practice that really accelerates learning for the students by bringing it to them in an engaging fashion when they need it."
