State Health Commissioner to discuss public health priorities

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- "Public Health Priorities in Indiana" will be the topic of the state's top health official in a talk at Indiana University on Feb. 28.
State Health Commissioner Dr. Richard Feldman will be a guest speaker at 1:30 p.m. in Whittenberger Auditorium at the Indiana Memorial Union. The program will be open to the public free of charge and is sponsored by the Department of Applied Health Science in the IU School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Feldman is widely published on issues related to family practice education, medicine, and tobacco-related illnesses. Seven priorities he is directing for the State Department of Health are infant mortality, adolescent pregnancy and prevention, tobacco-related illness, under-served populations, injury, operational efficiencies and core public health functions.
Feldman has been active in the medical field for more than 20 years. He is a medical consultant to various health care providers and has served with the Indiana State Medical Association and Indiana Academy of Family Physicians.
Feldman was named to the Indiana Medical Education Board in 1993 and to his current post in 1997. He is a graduate of the IU School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where he now has teaching duties. He received a bachelor's degree from IU Bloomington.
