Sept. 12, 2001
Since Tuesday's terrorist attacks, Indiana University's International
Programs office has been in contact with the directors of all IU programs
abroad, as well as all institutional providers in whose programs IU students are
participating.
Currently, 266 IU students are studying abroad. All were contacted
individually by e-mail by the International Programs office.
All of the directors and organizations have brought their students together
to discuss the terrorist attacks in the United States, to help students contact
their families at home, and to advise them on how to behave abroad, to maintain
low profiles, and to establish telephone trees and other emergency procedures.
The International Programs office also has been in touch with parents who
wish to have their students return to the United States as soon as possible in
the wake of Tuesday's attacks. The university is working to facilitate such
requests, which have been very few in number to this point.
