ALUMNI VOTERS RE-ELECT RAY RICHARDSON AS IU TRUSTEE

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Ray Richardson, an attorney from Greenfield, was re-elected today (June 30) by Indiana University alumni to a three-year term as an IU trustee. He garnered 9,459 of the 34,606 votes cast.

Other candidates and their vote totals were:

Kenneth "Ken" A. Beckley of Indianapolis, executive vice president of H.H. Gregg Co., 9,039 votes

B.J. Bischoff of Noblesville, president of White River Training and Consulting Inc., 7,043 votes

James H. Capshew of Bloomington, associate professor in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at IU Bloomington, 5,531 votes

Kevin Paul Tolliver of Carmel, a dentist and owner of Kevin P. Tolliver DDS, PC, 3,534 votes.

A total of 67 ballots were voided.

All candidates earned degrees from IU, and every degree-holder from the university had the opportunity to vote in the elections.

Richardson, an IU trustee since 1992, has served as chairman of the trustees' Committee on University Policies. He has also been a member of the Strategic Directions Steering Committee and two of its standing committees, and formerly served on the trustees' Campus and Community Committee.

He was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 1966 to 1990.

IU has nine trustees, with three elected by the alumni. The other two alumni trustees are Cora Smith Breckenridge of Elkhart, whose term expires in 2000; and James T. Morris of Indianapolis, whose term ends in 1999.

The remaining trustees are appointed by the governor.

Three will not be returning to their positions this year: P.A. Mack Jr. of Bloomington, William A. Cook of Livonia, and Robert H. McKinney of Indianapolis.

The other trustees are John D. Walda of Fort Wayne, the current president; Frederick F. Eichhorn Jr. of Hammond, the current vice president; and Rose Gallagher of Bloomington, the student representative. All three are serving terms that end in 1999.
