IU's first round men's NCAA soccer match to be broadcast Sunday over Internet

Nov. 17, 1999

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University is offering soccer fans an opportunity to follow the Hoosiers' defending NCAA champion men's soccer team in its quest for a fifth national title, from the comfort of their own homes.

IU will videostream live over the Internet the entire first round contest on Sunday (Nov. 21) against the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The game and broadcast will begin at 2 p.m. EST (19:00 Universal Time). The Internet address for the game will be http://broadcast.iu.edu/112199soccer. RealPlayer G2 will be needed to view the broadcast. For those who can't log on to see the action as it unfolds, the match will be archived for one month for rebroadcast on the Internet.

IU has been a national leader in new uses of emerging communications technologies such as the Internet. It was the first university to broadcast live on the Internet a major collegiate soccer tournament, the adidas/IU Credit Union Soccer Classic on Sept. 3-5, and also presented soccer matches with Pennsylvania State University and Ohio State University.

The IU men's soccer team coached by Jerry Yeagley, now in his 27th year at IU, won its fourth NCAA soccer championship in December 1998 with a 3-1 victory over Stanford.
