IU's second round men's NCAA soccer match to be audiocast Sunday over World Wide Web

Nov. 24, 1999

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University is offering soccer fans an opportunity to follow the Hoosiers' defending NCAA champion men's soccer team in its quest for a fifth national title, from the comfort of their own homes.

IU will audiostream live over the World Wide Web the entire second round contest on Sunday (Nov. 28) against the University of Washington Huskies. The game and broadcast will begin at 2 p.m. EST (19:00 Universal Time). Those wishing to listen to the match should log on to http://broadcast.iu.edu. RealPlayer G2 will be needed to listen to the audiocast. For those who can't log on to hear about the action as it unfolds, the match will be archived for one month for rebroadcast on the Web.

IU has been a national leader in new uses of emerging communications technologies such as the Internet. It was the first university to broadcast live on the World Wide Web a major collegiate soccer tournament, the adidas/IU Credit Union Soccer Classic on Sept. 3-5, and also presented soccer matches with Pennsylvania State University and Ohio State University.

The IU soccer team advanced to the NCAA second round on Nov. 21 with a 1-0 double overtime victory over the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The team coached by Jerry Yeagley, now in his 27th year at IU, won its fourth NCAA soccer championship in December 1998 with a 3-1 victory over Stanford.
