IUB Continuing Studies works with state to increase computer skills for local residents

Oct. 4, 2001

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Division of Continuing Studies on the Bloomington campus is collaborating with the State of Indiana to increase computer skills for the local work force.

IUB Continuing Studies and WorkOne, the local work force development office, are combining to provide computer training to upgrade the skills of local workers.

Ron White, director of the IUB Division of Continuing Studies, said a new computer lab will be developed and used during the day to serve WorkOne clients seeking training to obtain a job. The facility will be used in the evening as a teaching facility for IU continuing education courses.

The lab, slated to begin operations this month, will be located at 450 Landmark Ave. in Bloomington.

"This partnership," explained White, "is a key component of Continuing Studies' effort to be responsive to the career skill needs of local adults and play an active role in economic development."

For this semester, Continuing Studies will offer two programs at the computer lab: the Oracle certified professional program and the Web development certificate program. Those interested in enrolling should contact the IUB Division of Continuing Studies at 812-855-5108 for more details.
