Brand (center foreground) led a delegation of Big Ten presidents to the nation's capitol in the spring of 1997 as part of a coordinated Big Ten federal relations effort.

"Pro and Con" was a program concerned with social and academic issues hosted by Brand and produced by WTIU from 1997-2002.

Once a year, Brand would invite a student to Bryan House and then trade "jobs" with them. Brand attended their classes while the student assumed the IU presidency for a day.
