David Erdy: Indiana University and the 109th U.S. Open

Less than 72 hours after completing his second round at the 109th U.S. Open, 19-year-old David Erdy was back at it again, teeing off in Peru, Ind., for the -- coincidentally -- 109th Indiana Amateur. His love for the game of golf is obvious, as was his love for Indiana University at the U.S. Open in Bethpage Black, New York, with Erdy sporting his Cream and Crimson gear for much of the PGA major tournament.   Full Story >>

IU officials respond to NCAA decision on men's basketball

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and senior officials in the Department of Athletics said that for the most part they are satisfied with the conclusions contained in the final report of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, which was released today Nov. 25. McRobbie said the committee's decision clears the way for IU Men's Basketball Head Coach Tom Crean to proceed at full speed with his rebuilding program without having to worry about any further sanctions or penalties being imposed by the NCAA.   Full Story >>

Fred Glass chosen to head Department of Athletics

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie Oct. 28 named Fred Glass, '81, an Indianapolis attorney and civic leader, to be IU's next director of intercollegiate athletics. Glass, who will officially take over at IU Jan. 2, 2009, is well known in Indianapolis for his central role in several major sports-related initiatives, including negotiating a 30-year deal to keep the Colts in the city, financing and building the new Lucas Oil Stadium, organizing a Super Bowl bid and bringing major NCAA basketball events to the city.   Full Story >>

Indiana University expands “Celebrate IU” festivities to entire month of October

Indiana University's first-ever "Celebrate IU Week" in 2007 was so successful, university officials will continue the new tradition with a monthlong tribute to all eight of IU's campuses. Highlights of the October celebration will include IU President Michael McRobbie's first State of the University address (Oct. 14); Homecoming (Oct. 17-25); the music of Hoagy Carmichael, for whom a bronze statue was dedicated last week at IU Bloomington; performances of La Traviata marking IU Opera Theater's 60th anniversary season and its 400th performance; groundbreakings; dedications and even a student video contest on YouTube.   Full Story >>
