IU named National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research

The National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security announced that Indiana University is among the nation's first universities to be designated National Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Research. The designation complements IU's selection in August 2007 as a National Center of Academic Excellence for Information Assurance Education.   Full Story >>

Fun, sun and robots: IU summer technology workshop for teens

Indiana high school students with an interest in computer technology, programming, or networking can work side by side with IU technology professionals to build a robot during a hands-on workshop sponsored by the Community Outreach Program of Pervasive Technology Labs (PTL) at Indiana University. Network security researchers from the Advanced Network Management Lab will lead the second annual PTL Summer Technology Workshop, which will introduce teens to the field of high-speed network research and cybersecurity. Using a kit from the LEGO® Mindstorms® series, workshop participants will build a wireless network-controlled robot. Places & Spaces: Mapping Science opens at the Chinese Academy of Sciences

Places & Spaces: Mapping Science, an exhibit that illustrates the social interactions of scientists and the substance of their research, opens Saturday, May 17 at the National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. The exhibit will remain on display until June 30, after which it will travel to Chinese Academy of Sciences branches in Lazhou (July 15 - Aug. 15), Chengdu (Sept. 1 - Oct. 1), and Wuhan (Oct. 15 - Nov. 15).   Full Story >>

IUPUI student lands residency with Pixar Animation Studios

Following the telephone call confirming his selection as an animator for Pixar Animation Studios, Frank Tai confessed that he couldn't sleep later that night. IU dedicates new resources to support Lustre over wide area networks

University Information Technology Services (UITS) at Indiana University announced today that it has dedicated over 350 terabytes (TB) of new storage platforms to support collaborative research projects mounting the Lustre file system across the TeraGrid network and other national high speed networks. IU's Data Capacitor Project Lead Stephen Simms made the announcement during a panel discussion at the Sun Microsystems-sponsored 2008 Lustre User Group being held this week in Sonoma, California.   Full Story >>

Call for Participation: IEEE 2008 eScience Conference

Organizing committees for the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Scalable Computing 2008 eScience Conference are now accepting papers and proposals for tutorials; posters, exhibits, and demos; and workshops and special sessions.
