Word learning in deaf children with cochlear implants

Learning words may be facilitated by early exposure to auditory input, according to research presented by the Indiana University School of Medicine at the American Association for the Advancement of Science Annual Meeting in San Diego, Feb. 18-22. IU names 2010 Distinguished Teaching Award recipients

As Indiana University marks its founding 190 years ago this spring, President Michael A. McRobbie will present IU's Distinguished Teaching Awards in honor of Founders Day at a dinner on April 16. Sixteen faculty members and two doctoral students will be recognized for outstanding teaching, research and service to the university. The award recipients teach at IU Bloomington, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, Indiana University Kokomo, Indiana University Northwest and Indiana University South Bend.   Full Story >>

IU to offer summer workshop for grad school-bound students

Indiana University Bloomington's College of Arts and Sciences will host a two-week workshop this summer (June 13-24) for students interested in applying to graduate programs in the humanities and social sciences. Indiana-Kenya Partnership receives $5 million USAID grant to expand comprehensive care

AMPATH, the joint partnership between Indiana University School of Medicine, the Moi (Eldoret, Kenya) University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, has received a three-year, $5 million USAID supplement grant to expand health care services in western Kenya. AMPATH -- the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare -- received a five-year, $60 million grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in 2007 to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS in Kenya.   Full Story >>

Emissaries for Graduate Student Diversity help new IU graduate students find their way

Starting graduate school can be an unsettling experience, combining long hours of often solitary work with the challenge of finding one's place on a new campus and in a new city. That's why the Indiana University Graduate School in Bloomington created the Emissaries for Graduate Student Diversity program, in which veteran graduate students provide advice, encouragement and mentoring to newcomers.   Full Story >>

2009 Wells Scholars announced at Indiana University

Indiana University announced that 18 entering freshmen and two current IU students will join more than 420 others who have been named Wells Scholars since the first class enrolled in 1990. The scholarship, created in honor of the late IU Chancellor Herman B Wells, ranks among the most competitive and prestigious awards offered by any American university.   Full Story >>
