Visitors to this weekend's commencement activities at Indiana University Bloomington should expect traffic delays and choose recommended alternate routes of travel during ongoing construction across campus.

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie will preside over 2012 commencement ceremonies this spring on seven campuses statewide, where 18,019 students will be eligible to receive IU degrees. Additionally, 1,252 Purdue University degrees will be awarded through the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus. Grammy Award-winning artist and IU Jacobs School of Music alumnus Booker T Jones will address students at the IU Bloomington undergraduate ceremonies.

Legendary soul musician Booker T Jones and David L. Carden, the United States' first resident ambassador to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will be commencement speakers at IU Bloomington commencement ceremonies next month. Both Jones and Carden are IU alumni.

Randall T. Shepard, chief justice of the Indiana Supreme Court, will address graduates at Indiana University's 2011 Winter Commencement on Dec. 17. Shepard is the longest-serving chief justice in the history of Indiana. Upon assuming his current position in 1987 at age 40, he was the youngest chief justice in the United States.

High-speed Internet connectivity among 63 Indiana universities and colleges will be celebrated tomorrow (Nov. 3) when officials gather to recognize the approaching completion of a $35.8 million infrastructure project connecting 21 Ivy Tech Community College campuses to Indiana's I-Light network.
