A study co-authored by a professor in IU's Kelley School of Business suggests that fans do have a great impact on games and that officials often are not objective in their efforts to be fair to both teams.

Indiana University Athletics Director Fred Glass will speak with students at the Indiana Memorial Union Market on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. This is a free event arranged by the Indiana Memorial Union Board to allow students to contribute to the future of the IU athletics experience.

"Wacky, Wild, Crimson Style" is the theme of Indiana University's 2009 Homecoming in Bloomington. IU alumni, students, and friends are invited to nearly 20 activities taking place Oct. 9 to 17, including the 51st IU Homecoming parade.

The new North End Zone Facility at Indiana University Bloomington's Memorial Stadium will be formally dedicated in a ceremony at the stadium on Friday (Oct. 2) at 2:30 p.m., with IU President Michael A. McRobbie presiding. The ceremony also will rename the new structure the North End Zone Student-Athlete Development Center.

Whitney Thomas will return to play for a fifth year at Indiana University -- but this semester, the women's basketball star will trade hoops for volleyball. Thomas is taking advantage of an NCAA rule that offers student-athletes a fifth year of eligibility to play one season of a different sport.

Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass announced today (August 23) that legendary IU coaches Bob Knight (basketball) and Jerry Yeagley (soccer) will headline the 2009 Indiana University Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame inductee class. They join former Hoosier standouts Steve Downing (men's basketball, 1971-73), Katrin Koch (women's track and field, 1989-92), Joe Norman (football, 1975-78), the late Mike Rabold (football, 1956-58), and Alan Somers (swimming, 1961-63) as honorees. The class will be officially inducted at the annual Hall of Fame dinner on November 6, and will be recognized at halftime of the football game against Wisconsin at Memorial Stadium, the following day.

Indiana University announced today (Aug. 13) that a new game day traffic plan will be implemented for the 2009 football season. The new plan is the product of a collaborative effort between Indiana University and several key partners. "I would like to thank President McRobbie and the Board of Trustees for their leadership in focusing us all on the issue of game day traffic," said Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass.

Less than 72 hours after completing his second round at the 109th U.S. Open, 19-year-old David Erdy was back at it again, teeing off in Peru, Ind., for the -- coincidentally -- 109th Indiana Amateur. Indiana University Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer J. Terry Clapacs announced today that IU will not implement a decision to add the name of IU basketball legend Bill Garrett to the Ora L. Wildermuth Intramural Center.

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and senior officials in the Department of Athletics said that for the most part they are satisfied with the conclusions contained in the final report of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, which was released today Nov. 25. McRobbie said the committee's decision clears the way for IU Men's Basketball Head Coach Tom Crean to proceed at full speed with his rebuilding program without having to worry about any further sanctions or penalties being imposed by the NCAA.

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie Oct. 28 named Fred Glass, '81, an Indianapolis attorney and civic leader, to be IU's next director of intercollegiate athletics. Glass, who will officially take over at IU Jan. 2, 2009, is well known in Indianapolis for his central role in several major sports-related initiatives, including negotiating a 30-year deal to keep the Colts in the city, financing and building the new Lucas Oil Stadium, organizing a Super Bowl bid and bringing major NCAA basketball events to the city.

"The moment I found out I won the Olympic trials I was so overwhelmed with emotion," said Christina Loukas, a senior in IU's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation who will be competing in the 3-meter springboard. Tom Crean, who averaged over 20 wins a season in nine years at Marquette and led the Golden Eagles to five NCAA Tournament appearances including the 2003 Final Four, has been named the 28th head basketball coach in Indiana University history, IU President Michael McRobbie and Director of Athletics Rick Greenspan announced on Wednesday.
