IU Professor of Trombone featured on popular Rubank Method CDs

Carl Lenthe, professor of trombone at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, is the featured soloist on two newly released CDs contained in H. Voxman's Concert and Contest Collection, featuring the Rubank Method--one for trombone and one for baritone horn, both with piano accompaniment. In addition, Kimberly Carballo, interim head opera coach at the Jacobs School, is one of the featured pianists on the trombone CD.   Full Story >>

IU Auditorium welcomes home Jacobs alumnus Dennis James for Halloween concert

Indiana University alumnus Dennis James returns to IU Auditorium for his annual Halloween organ performance, this year accompanying Alfred Hitchcock's thriller Blackmail, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m. Audience members who arrive by 7:30 p.m. will be eligible to compete in the B97-sponsored costume contest in the categories of "Scariest Costume," "Most Creative Costume" and "Best Overall."   Full Story >>

IU Jacobs School of Music student receives music scholarship, heard on national radio broadcast

Jingxuan Zhang, a 16-year-old piano student in the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, has been awarded a $10,000 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award by From the Top, the non-profit organization best known for its NPR and PBS programs featuring America's best young classical musicians. James Kim, a 16-year-old cellist who studied in the Jacobs School's String Academy for six years with Susan Bloom, won the same $10,000 award. Both will be featured on the broadcast, which will air nationally the week of Oct. 19 as part of From the Top's 10th Anniversary Season and on Indianapolis' WFYI 90.1 FM on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.   Full Story >>

IU Opera Theater continues season with timeless 'Romeo et Juliette'

Indiana University Opera Theater continues its 2009-10 season with the passionate, timeless Roméo et Juliette, opening Oct. 23 at the Musical Arts Center. The company has produced this work only twice before, in 1966 and in 2005.   Full Story >>
