IU departments co-sponsoring symposium on teaching and learning indigenous languages of Latin America

For the second time, two units at Indiana University are co-sponsoring the Symposium on Teaching and Learning Indigenous Languages of Latin America, or STLILLA, focusing on the preservation and promotion of indigenous languages of Latin America. The Indiana Department of Education and Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett have named Riverview Middle School teacher Melanie Park, who holds two Indiana University School of Education degrees, as Indiana's 2012 Teacher of the Year. Bennett presented Park with the award during a surprise ceremony today (Oct. 10) at her school in Huntington, Ind.   Full Story >>

School of Education faculty member selected for prestigious children's literature fellowship

The International Youth Library in Munich has selected Donna Adomat, assistant professor in the department of Literacy, Culture, and Language Education in the Indiana University School of Education, for one of its dozen fellowship awards that are presented annually. Adomat will visit Munich for three months to work on a research project using resources of the library.   Full Story >>

Weekend conference at IU to promote early language learning

A Saturday (Oct. 2) workshop at the Indiana University School of Education will emphasize best practices for implementing and advocating for teaching world languages in schools. The Indiana Network for Early Language Learning (IN-NELL) and "Bridges: Children, Languages, World," a project of IU's Center for the Study of Global Change, is holding its fall conference from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wright Education Building at 201 N. Education in Afghanistan: IU and 'Three Cups of Tea'

Indiana University Bloomington School of Education faculty will host a viewing of an Indianapolis speech by Greg Mortenson, the acclaimed author of Three Cups of Tea, Sept. 27 (Monday), which will be followed by a presentation on its ongoing Higher Education Project (HEP) in the war-torn country. Mortenson's speech will be streamed live to IU Bloomington's Wright Education Building's Alumni Room (2277) located on the second floor beginning at 6:15 p.m.   Full Story >>
