Choral Conducting
The Singing Hoosiers, one of America's most popular show choirs and often considered Indiana University's ambassadors of song, will pay tribute to one of Indiana's most iconic jazz composers, Cole Porter (1891-1964), in a free concert. "Cole Porter and Friends" is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. in Auer Hall at the IU Jacobs School of Music. A repeat performance is scheduled for the following night, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. in the same location.

Robert Porco, adjunct professor of choral conducting and senior advisor to the Choral Department chair at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, is the recipient of the Michael Korn Founders Award for Development of the Professional Choral Art from Chorus America.

As part of the inaugural Indiana University Summer Festival of the Arts, the Jacobs School of Music has assembled a "Summer Music" series of more than 40 free and ticketed events from June 20 through Aug. 10. In all, the series offers an array of world-class concerts featuring orchestra, chamber music, piano, band, percussion, opera, chorus and other special events. Highlights this year include violin virtuoso and Jacobs faculty member Joshua Bell, legendary pianist Distinguished Professor Menahem Pressler and eclectic string trio Time for Three.

Known as "the ambassadors of song for Indiana University," the Singing Hoosiers will embark on a 13-day performance tour of China beginning May 9. A group of 40 members of the 90-voice ensemble from the IU Jacobs School of Music plan to participate in this experience along with music director Professor Michael Schwartzkopf.

The Singing Hoosiers, otherwise known as Indiana University's "ambassadors of song," will perform a concert of American popular songs at IU Auditorium Saturday, April 2, at 8 p.m. Led by Jacobs School of Music professor Michael Schwartzkopf, the ensemble will perform an entertaining program of Broadway favorites, jazz selections and other American popular songs, all with dazzling choreography, energy and style. "It's always thrilling to be back in the IU Auditorium for our spring concert," Schwartzkopf said. "After traveling far and wide during the year, it's our opportunity to celebrate this great music with Bloomington audiences and the many choir alumni who visit for the event."

A formidable force of 60 musicians and singers from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is set to present George Frideric Handel's oratorio Judas Maccabaeus, HWV 63. The ensemble will perform the work three times: on Friday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis and on Saturday, March 5, at 8 p.m., and Sunday March 6, at 4 p.m., in Bloomington's Auer Hall.
