Winning design announced for official IU plaid

Plaid Design

It's official: Indiana University now has its own plaid. Linda Xiong, a senior majoring in apparel merchandising and fashion design in the IU College of Arts and Sciences, created the winning design. Her entry received the most votes among four designs in an online poll that ended Feb. 21. The winning design will now be licensed and trademarked through Indiana University as the university's official plaid, representing all campuses. Apparel merchandising undergraduate students will use the official plaid to design new products each year, and will make every effort to work with fair trade and eco-friendly vendors.   Full Story >>

Textile expert to speak at IU, art and design center

Textile expert and visiting scholar Susan Neill will speak on "The Texture of Ideas: Dynamic Symmetry in the Handwoven Textiles of Mary Crovatt Hambidge" at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Whittenberger Auditorium at the Indiana Memorial Union, and again at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Indiana University Center for Art and Design-Columbus, 310 Jackson St. in downtown Columbus.   Full Story >>

Students invited to submit designs for IU's official plaid

IU Official Colors

Are you mad for plaid? The Indiana University Students in Free Enterprise team is looking for a student who will go down in history as the designer of IU's official plaid, which will be featured on apparel, scarves, bags and other IU-branded merchandise. Participants must use the official IU Cream (Pantone 9161) and Crimson (Pantone 201) colors, and one to four additional colors.   Full Story >>

‘Tie and dye’ textile artist to visit IU as guest of Bill Blass Fashion Design Seminar Series

Textile designer and "tie and dye" expert Sharon Kilfoyle will present a public lecture conduct a three-day workshop for students of Indiana University's Department of Apparel Merchandising and Interior Design during her visit to IU next week. Kilfoyle's Sept. 23 lecture and workshop are presented by the department's Bill Blass Fashion Design Seminar Series.
