Latin American Music Center

Celebrating 50 years of research, service and performance, the Indiana University Latin American Music Center (LAMC) will host an international conference devoted to the examination of musical interactions between the United States and Latin America.

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music's Latin American Music Center (LAMC) announces that violinist Colin Sorgi and collaborative pianist Jooeun Pak have won the first Latin American Music Recording Competition, held Jan. 29 and 30, with the final round in Auer Hall. Sorgi is a master's student, studying violin with Professor Jaime Laredo and Pak is a doctoral student, studying piano with Professor Edmund Battersby.

The IU Jacobs School of Music Latin American Music Center (LAMC) plans to celebrate 2011, its golden jubilee year, with a range of public events that will be offered free of charge. The celebration concert series opens Feb. 13 with a Latin Valentine: "Bésame Mucho, the Greatest Latin Love Songs of All Time."

Carmen Helena Téllez, professor in the Jacobs School of Music and the 2010 recipient of the prestigious Tracy M. Sonneborn Award at Indiana University, will be recognized on Nov. 4 in the IU Simon Music Center's Auer Hall. Also recognized will be Sara C. Pryor, professor in the Department of Geography, and Romualdo de Souza, professor in the Department of Chemistry, both of whom have been named Provost Professors.
