Indiana University Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson will host a campus open house next week to enable students to meet new Dean of Students Harold "Pete" Goldsmith. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in the Frangipani Room of the Indiana Memorial Union. All IU Bloomington students are invited.

Indiana University Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson announced today (June 4) that Harold "Pete" Goldsmith, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Kent State University, has been named dean of students, pending approval by the IU Board of Trustees.

Four candidates for the position of vice provost for student affairs and dean of students at Indiana University Bloomington will visit the campus and speak at public forums during the next two weeks. Dick McKaig, the current vice provost and dean of students, will retire this summer. He has been with Indiana University since 1971 and has been dean of students since 1991.

Indiana University students created more than 50 videos highlighting their favorite aspects of the university for a recent "Celebrate IU" student video contest. The contest, now in its second year, is part of the university's "Celebrate IU" festivities, a month of special events that began Oct. 1. IU asked students to share their university spirit with the world by creating 60-second videos and uploading them to the popular video sharing Web site YouTube.

Sailing into the sunset? Hardly. Richard McKaig, dean of students and vice provost for student affairs at Indiana University Bloomington, will race across the IU Outdoor Pool -- in a cardboard boat -- on Friday (Sept. 26) with Robert M. Goodman, dean of the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation. All in good fun -- and to raise money for student scholarships.

Indiana University and several other organizations are sponsoring the 2007 Bloomington Multicultural Festival on Sunday (Sept. 23). "Celebrating Diversity in Our Community!" is the theme of this year's event. In its fourth year, Bloomington's Multicultural Festival began as a program to highlight the diversity this community offers across the Monroe County community.
