Film Festival to highlight social, economic needs of Haiti one year after devastating earthquake

A new film festival that focuses on the ongoing social and economic needs of people in Haiti is scheduled for 1-7:30 p.m. on Jan. 23, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The Haiti Film Festival is presented by Indiana University's Latino Cultural Center (La Casa) and the community group Bloomington for Haiti. "This film festival is a great way to continue to educate and bring awareness on what is happening in Haiti," said Lillian Casillas, director of La Casa. "People quickly forget or move on to other topics, but we need to keep Haiti in the forefront of their consciousness."   Full Story >>

Deadline approaching for students to register for IU Latino conference in Indianapolis

The deadline is approaching for college and high school students across the state to register for the 10th Annual Indiana Latino Leadership Conference. Indiana University Bloomington's Indiana Latino Leadership Conference committee members are sponsoring this year's event with Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and Ivy Tech Community College. This year's theme is "Sleeping Giant? From Invisible to Invincible," and the conference will be Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Campus Center at IUPUI.   Full Story >>

The Indiana Latina/o Leadership Conference committee is inviting Indiana University student organizations and students across the state to participate in workshops or to submit papers for its 10th annual conference in 2009. The committee invites proposals for workshops related to the theme, "Sleeping Giant? From Invisible to Invincible." IU’s Festival Latino brings in a Grammy-nominated group to celebrate 10th anniversary

To celebrate its 10th year, organizers of the 2008 Festival Latino at Indiana University Bloomington will bring in a Grammy-nominated group to perform at the free outdoor event. Latino culture will be celebrated with food, live music, dancing, interactive activities and more during the one-day festival sponsored by the IU Latino Cultural Center, La Casa.
