Commencements scheduled at IU for May 3 through May 14

Graduate

A total of 16,049 graduates will be eligible for degrees from Indiana University during May commencement ceremonies at eight campuses. IU commencement week begins in Bloomington on May 3 (Saturday) and concludes at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne on May 14 (Wednesday).   Full Story >>

IU study shows sharp increase in escalator injuries to older adults

In the first large scale national study of escalator-related injuries to older adults, researchers led by Dr. Joseph O'Neil and Dr. Greg Steele of the Indiana University School of Medicine, report that the rate of these injuries has doubled from 1991 to 2005. The results of the study are published in the March 2008 issue of the journal Accident Analysis and Prevention.   Full Story >>

Simon Hall wins high honors in architecture competition

Indiana University Bloominton's newest science building, Simon Hall, has won high honors in R&D Magazine's 2008 "Lab of the Year," an architecture competition for research facilities. Madison, Wisc.-based Flad & Associates, which designed Simon Hall, submitted their contest entry in January. Flad architects worked closely with IU architects to design a 141,000-square-foot structure that encourages interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers in fields as disparate as biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics.   Full Story >>

IU scientists, leaders to highlight life sciences at State House

Indiana University scientists and leaders will gather to promote Indiana's life sciences research and support IU's 2008 legislative agenda at the Indiana State House on Wednesday, Feb. 13, as part of the annual State House Visit and Life Sciences Day. IU President Michael A. McRobbie and IU Bloomington Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson will offer remarks during the event sponsored by Hoosiers for Higher Education at 1 p.m. in the North Atrium of the State House before an expected 400 guests.   Full Story >>
