Shared flavor compounds show up on U.S. menus, rare in Asian cuisines

North Americans and Western Europeans love a good mix of alpha-terpineol, 4-methylpentanoic acid and ethyl propionate for dinner, flavor compounds shared in popular ingredients like tomatoes, parmesan cheese and white wine. Authentic East Asian recipes, on the other hand, tend to avoid mixing ingredients with many shared flavor compounds, according to new complex networks research from Indiana, Harvard, Cambridge and Northeastern universities.   Full Story >>

OpenSFS funds Indiana University to develop Lustre wide area networks

The board of directors of OpenSFS, the Lustre community group in North America, has voted to fund Indiana University (IU) to develop features that will enhance the usability of the Lustre file system across wide area networks (WANs). IU moves fast and thinks big at annual supercomputing conference

Indiana University during SC11 this year will demonstrate the many ways its information technology experts have advanced the future of high performance computing. The annual International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis is the largest event of its kind, bringing together leading scientists and researchers from around the globe, as well as representatives from top universities, companies, and organizations in the supercomputing field. IU opens center to solve challenges of digital scientific research
