Folklore and Ethnomusicology Department
Ten faculty members at Indiana University have been awarded Fulbright grants for the 2011-12 academic year. The Fulbright recipients represent three IU campuses -- Bloomington, Indianapolis and Fort Wayne -- and their research and academic activity take place worldwide.

A theatrical production that imagines a conversation between two of America's most important civil rights figures -- the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X -- will highlight a week of activities at Indiana University Bloomington celebrating King's legacy, beginning Thursday, Jan. 12.

Indiana University junior Kip Hutchins, 19, has been awarded a 2011 Beinecke Scholarship that he can apply to the graduate school of his choice. Hutchins plans to use the award to further his Mongolian studies following his projected May 2012 graduation. A Hutton Honors College scholar double majoring in linguistics and folklore and ethnomusicology in the IU College of Arts and Sciences, he is one of 20 students nationwide to receive a Beinecke Scholarship, and the seventh IU student to win the award, which was established in 1971. IU students have earned the Beinecke Scholarship in four of the last five years.

Roger Abrahams, Hum Rosen Professor of Humanities Emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania, will present the IU Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology's inaugural Richard M. Dorson Memorial Lecture on April 5.
