Sex and intrigue take the stage as IU Theatre opens spring season with 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses'

The "dangerous liaisons" in Christopher Hampton's play have more deceit and intrigue than a Hollywood marriage. The award-winning drama "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" continues IU Theatre's 2011-12 season, opening Friday, Feb. 3, and continuing through Feb. 11 in the Wells-Metz Theatre. Funding awarded for IU modern dance projects

Indiana University Bloomington faculty members Selene Carter, George Pinney and Elizabeth Shea have been selected to receive funding in 2012 from the Fran Snygg Grant for Artistic Collaboration and the Fran Snygg Endowment Fund.   Full Story >>

'Contemporary Voices' concert to showcase 'here and now' of modern dance

The emphasis of "Contemporary Voices," the upcoming annual faculty/guest artist concert presented by the Indiana University Dance Theatre, is in no uncertain terms on "contemporary." A couple in their tighty whities dancing with nothing but a mattress. An inflatable sky dancer (yes, like the ones flapping at car dealerships). Original works by IU faculty members, one of whom uses intricate, high-tech embellishments, and another who hopes to see audience members calling the shots in her improvisational piece. Three Musketeers

Athos, Porthos and Aramis ride again in a new staged translation of The Three Musketeers by emerging Chicago playwright-actor Robert Kauzlaric, opening tonight (Friday, Nov. 11) in the Ruth N. Halls Theatre at Indiana University Bloomington. Presented by IU Theatre, the plot revolves around a Gascon youth who teams up the musketeers, only to become entangled in a plot surrounding an evil cardinal, a sly lady and a romance between a duke and a queen. "Everybody knows of The Three Musketeers, but people rarely know the story behind it. Alexandre Dumas' novel is quite complex," director Murray McGibbon said.   Full Story >>

IU Theatre comedy 'In the Next Room, or the vibrator play' examines a unique moment in history

Indiana University Theatre's 2011-2012 season continues with a production of the Tony Award-nominated comedy In the Next Room, or the vibrator play, by award-winning playwright Sarah Ruhl. Opening night is Friday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. Set in 1875, the play unfolds during the early growth of residential electrical service and centers around the use of the vibrator -- which was then considered a medical device used by doctors to treat women with "hysteria."   Full Story >>
