Places & Spaces: Mapping Science, an exhibit that illustrates the social interactions of scientists and the substance of their research, opens Saturday, May 17 at the National Science Library of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing. The exhibit will remain on display until June 30, after which it will travel to Chinese Academy of Sciences branches in Lazhou (July 15 - Aug. 15), Chengdu (Sept. 1 - Oct. 1), and Wuhan (Oct. 15 - Nov. 15).

The National Institutes of Health has given $1.2 million to Indiana University researchers to build the ultimate international epidemic research tool. Principle investigators Katy Börner, Steven J. Sherman and Alessandro Vespignani will oversee the project, EpiC, which they hope will make the sharing and re-using of epidemics datasets and algorithms as easy as sharing videos via YouTube.

Information architecture (IA) addresses the design of effective and efficient information systems and structures that provide access to collections of information resources. IA involves the processes of planning, overseeing implementation, and managing the growth of organizational structures that provide meaningful context in support of user understanding and mediate interaction between system content and user. The Indiana University Bloomington School of Library and Information Science is receiving national recognition for its individuals and effectiveness as a program. SLIS Dean Blaise Cronin will receive the American Society for Information Science and Technology's Award of Merit at its annual November meeting in Austin, Texas.
