Summer Instructional Development Fellowships named

Seven Indiana University Bloomington faculty have received 2009 Summer Instructional Development Fellowships from the offices of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and the Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs to develop specialized and innovative courses. They are Sonya Atalay in anthropology; Colleen Ryan-Scheutz and Kelly Sax in French and Italian; Beth Samuelson in literacy, language and culture education; Kalpana Shankar in informatics; Kay Connelly in computer science; and Rex Sprouse in Germanic studies and second language studies.   Full Story >>

With latest honor, Hofstadter is IU's first-ever Pulitzer, APS, AAAS triple honoree

Little more than a week after election as a fellow to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor of Cognitive Science Douglas Hofstadter has been elected a fellow of the American Philosophical Society. With the honor Hofstadter becomes the first faculty member in Indiana University history to hold fellowships in the two prestigious societies and to have won a Pulitzer Prize.   Full Story >>

WIC Week focuses professional development, tech talks on women

WIC Week, a string of events tonight (March 9) through Thursday -- organized by Indiana University's Women in Informatics and Computing -- will focus as much on the social aspects of securing success in technology fields as it will on talking technical applications. IU and Technische Universität Dresden undergraduates win supercomputing competition

Not even an ocean could stand between them and success. The "ClusterMeisters," a team of students from the Indiana University School of Informatics and Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) were awarded first place in the SC08 Cluster Challenge, an international collegiate competition for leading-edge, energy-efficient high performance computing.   Full Story >>
