India Studies Program
Two of the nation's preeminent scholars on international security and nuclear weapons will meet Wednesday (Nov. 18) for a debate on the long-term security implications of nuclear weapons in South Asia.

The Center on American and Global Security and the India Studies Program at Indiana University have invited a distinguished panel of experts to present a symposium on "The Future of Nuclear Weapons." The symposium will take place on Oct. 29 at the Indiana Memorial Union in Bloomington and is free and open to the public.

Pravina Shukla, an associate professor of folklore and ethnomusicology at Indiana University, has been awarded the 2009 Millia Davenport Publication Award given by the Costume Society of America for her book The Grace of Four Moons: Dress, Adornment, and the Art of the Body in Modern India (2008, Indiana University Press).

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie today (Sept. 4) joined with the chief executive of the Australian National University -- that nation's top-ranked institution of higher education -- in signing a partnership agreement for the creation of a jointly operated Pan-Asian Institute. The new institute will combine the complementary academic strengths of the two universities into a single research and teaching enterprise with expertise that encompasses a broad range of Asian countries.

This fall's India Studies lecture series at Indiana University will again bring leading political, art and cultural scholars of India and South Asia to the IU Bloomington campus. The lecture series will begin on Friday (Sept. 11) with a presentation by Christophe Jaffrelot, the Alliance visiting professor at Columbia University and a leading India scholar in France and adviser to the French government.
